Semester Focus:
Most urban areas in the South come into existence without previous design, and those who are planned are not necessarily better, though different. Much can be learnt from spontaneous formation of urban space and facilities, but complete lack of planning demands a high (social and financial) cost in the long run.
This lecture series introduces a number of basic rules to be observed in the planning of cities in the south. The focus lies on the aspects of space as well as urban management issues.
